Who Are We ?

Some History

Ruxley Methodist Church was founded in 1960 and St Francis of Assisi (Church of England) was founded in 1939. When the St. Francis Parochial Church Council found in 1997 that their building was subsiding and would cost a fortune to shore up, Ruxley Methodist Church Council kindly offered to let them share the Methodist Building just down the road.

On Pentecost Sunday 1998, a sharing agreement was signed and since then the two congregations have been growing closer together.

From August 2000, we have been sharing all our worship and are now looking to formalise our position.

In an historic vote at our separate annual meetings on 26th April 2001, both congregations agreed overwhelmingly to move forward as a single congregation Local Ecumenical Partnership (LEP) under a covenant agreement.

On Sunday 20th January 2002 we signed our Covenant Agreement.

In May 2007 we received planing permission for a new church building on the old St.Francis site

The future

Whilst we do not yet know where this journey will lead, we do have a vision that includes outreach and witness in our community. The new Church building is our next step along this road.

Other Activities

A wide variety of organisations also use our buildings, including Guides, Brownies, Girls' Brigade, Dance Groups, a Model Railway club and a Nursery.
